Clooney and Obama in DC for DarfurAs a report arises today about the government of China funneling arms into the war ravaged region of Darfur, Hollywood heavies are putting their money where their mouth is.

The State Department released a disturbing study today that links Chinese arms sales to money and weapons being funneled to the people in Darfur causing the most human suffering. The report came from the U.S.-based Human Rights First and said that shipments of arms and munitions have increased from China to the African locale steadily since the violence in the Sudan broke out.

China is responding by saying this is a publicity-generated story meant to hurt their place on the world stage with the arrival of this summer’s Olympics.

Meanwhile, Clooney, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and Brad Pitt delivered a $500,000 check to help ease the troubles relief workers were experiencing in the region. Their group, Not On Our Watch handed over the funds to the UN World Food Program.

Clooney addressed the situation in a statement:

“Without immediate additional funding, humanitarian aid in the region will be crippled.”
