Everyone knows the rules for going through airport security, right? No large containers of liquids, lay your laptop flat on the belt and leave containers resembling pipe bombs at home! Haven’t people learned what NOT to bring with them to an airport? Apparently not because four of the six concourses were closed at Miami International Airport until this morning after a suspicious item was found in a man’s baggage.
A government spokesman said that TSA screeners found a metal canister resembling a pipe bomb in his belongings Thursday night and was detained shortly thereafter. Although no explosives were found, the 70-year-old scientist is being questioned now by the FBI and Miami Dade police.
As a safety precaution, all passengers were evacuated from the area while bomb squads searched the airport for explosives. Airport roadways were also closed down as was a nearby hotel. Miami International Airport reopened shortly after 4 am early Friday morning.
So what have we learned here? If you’re traveling with a container that resembles a bomb, prepare to miss your flight! Come on people, leave that stuff at home!
