Update: 3:34 EST. It has been reported by The Baltimore Sun that the shooter has killed himself and his mother.
A man shot and wounded a doctor at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore before killing himself after a two hour standoff, according to reports.
Information is still trickling in at this time, with neither the doctor nor the shooter identified.
Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told The Associated Press that the gunman and his relative died in a hospital room.
Guglielmi said earlier that he did not know the relationship between the gunman – described as a man in his 30s – and the doctor. The hospital said in a statement that the doctor is a faculty physician but that it could not release more information because of privacy policies, according to the Huffington Post.
The doctor was shot in the stomach but was expected to survive, Guglielmi said.
Thankfully, the doctor was shot at one of the most advanced hospitals in the world. Not that it makes it any better, of course. But the odds of his survival are much better than, say, if he was shot at a McDonald’s.
The incident comes on the heels of a shooting at a Kraft Plant in Philadelphia last week where two people were killed and another wounded by a former employee.
