Ever since word got out that Katy Perry’s Hot N Cold video with Elmo was too racy for kids to see (as determined by people who determine these things) no one’s really gotten to ask the Sesame Street characters themselves how they feel about the issue.
As reported right here on The Wire, Preacher’s-daughter-turned-sexy-pop-star Katy Perry was slated to appear on the long-running PBS children’s show singing a kid friendly version of her hit Hot N Cold with Elmo, but it got pulled after parents freaked out over Perry’s cleavage-bearing dress.
And while parents have been talking about the incident, even going on national talk shows, Elmo broke his own silence, assuring the nation that Katy Perry would surely be back on Sesame Street.
In a Good Morning America interview, Sesame Street Executive Producer Carol-Lynn Parente told Mr. Stephanopoulos she was surprised at the volume of disapproving responses the video had generated when it was posted on YouTube earlier in the week.
“We would never, never produce anything that we thought was inappropriate,” Ms. Parente said. She said that her program books its celebrity guests as a strategy “to go after those younger parents who may not have grown up with ‘Sesame Street’ and may not seek ‘Sesame Street’ out.”
However, later in the interview, Elmo came to Katy Perry’s defense.
“Elmo loves Miss Katy,” he said, using his customary third-person reference. “We had a good time. So we’ll have another play date.”
Also on hand was Grover, whose blue fur was clearly visible through his Super Grover costume. “How do you like my new outfit, huh?” he asked Mr. Stephanopoulos. “It is not too revealing, is it?” Via the New York Times
Elmo has spoken, now everyone else just calm the heck down.
