It’s official! Portia De Rossi has legally taken wife Ellen DeGeneres’ last name and is now Portia DeGeneres. During a closed hearing on Thursday, Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner made De Rossi proud by granting her petition to become a DeGeneres. The 37-year-old star will now legally be known as Portia Lee James DeGeneres and the couple couldn’t be happier.
In a statement Portia said, “I am thrilled to legally adopt my wife’s name. I will continue to use Portia de Rossi for professional purposes.” When asked about starting a family, Ellen, 52, commented, “I don’t think we are going to have kids. We have animals, and we love them. And, you know, we are brand new aunts. Her brother and his wife just had a baby girl who’s a month old now, and it’s fun to be a part of that.”
This marks the second name change for the new Mrs. Portia DeGeneres, who was born Amanda Lee Rogers. The original name change was done when she was 15 years old, and she told The Advocate in 2005 that she did it as was a way to explore her true self and accept her sexuality.
The Australian-born actress is known for her roles on Ally McBeal, Better Off Ted and Arrested Development. Portia and Ellen DeGeneres tied the knot August 16, 2008.
