Google, our favorite search engine turns 12 today! On Google’s homepage, you’re greeted with a birthday cake created by Wayne Thiebaud, an 89-year-old American artist known for his pop art work.
September 27, 1998 is the date Google officially became a corporation. Starting out as just a research project at Stanford called Backrub, Google search came about after founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin became frustrated with internet search engines. The California-based company quickly realized that Google search was going to become a whole lot more.
Since that day 12 years ago, Google has evolved into an internet powerhouse and Google has even become a verb! With the launch of Gmail, Google Maps, the Android platform and Chrome, Google proves time and time again why they have 65% of the market share in the United States.
Happy 12th Birthday Google!
