A shooting took place this morning on the University of Texas-Austin campus. The Austin-American Statesman reports that the gunman has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but that police are also looking for another suspect. There is no word yet on other injuries. Officials say the suspect had an A-K-47.

Holy crap! I am IN AUSTIN right now, like two miles from the campus! This is scary…

UT Spokesman Don Hale told the Statesman that the gunman ‘apparently took his own life’ on the sixth floor of the Perry-Castaneda Library (via Huffington Post).

You can actually watch a live stream of the events unfolding courtesy of local station KVUE, here.

The campus is on lock-down and people are obviously being asked to stay away. Investigators are trying to determine what sparked the gunfire. This is particularity scary for this blogger, since I had planned to go to the UT campus today with a friend who goes to film school there, take a tour and play with my dog on the sprawling landscaped grass. Methinks I’ll be making other plans. I really hope no else was injured. What a sad thing to happen.
