It’s not every day that a news reporter is busted for growing pot. Seems like a strange side job for a successful guy, doesn’t it? But that is exactly what happened to poor CBS Radio News correspondent Howard Arenstein along with his wife, Orly Azoulay, in Washington, DC.
This all went down Saturday morning after someone tipped off the cops. Washington, DC police spokesman Lt. Nicholas Breul said the pair were arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Upon searching the home, eleven fully mature marijuana plants and six two-ounce bags of marijuana were discovered inside. Authorities say each plant equals one pound of marijuana.
Who grows marijuana in their backyard these days in metropolitan Washington, DC? Way to be subtle, Howard! I bet you never thought you’d be in the news for this.
Orly Azoulay works for the media as well and is the Washington correspondent for Yedioth Ahronoth, one of Israel’s most popular newspapers.
Howard Arenstein signed on with CBS News in 1984 and made the switch to CBS radio in 1987. He is apparently very good at what he does and has been awarded two individual Edward R. Murrow awards in addition to other merits. I have a feeling the award for DC’s dumbest drug dealer is in the works.
