Yes, her name is Krystal Ball and she’s running for Congress in Virginia. You think that would be embarrassing enough, but someone had to go and post some racy photos of the candidate from a Christmas party a few years back and she’s not too happy about it.
Krystal Ball, really?
Anyway, Ball is blaming the postings of her in sexually suggestive positions with her husband while in a Santa hat and a leotard on her Republican rival, Rep. Bob Whittman. He, of course, denies the allegations.
She should probably just be blaming Mark Zuckerberg.
The blogs that posted the photos have since taken them down. However, Ball’s misstep should serve as a notice to young Americans who are hoping to run for office one day.
KEEP YOUR STUFF OFF THE ‘NET.
From all accounts, the racy photos were hardly all that, they only included Ball and her ex-husband, and they were taken when the young politician to be was only 22.
(Divorced already before 30? Jeez, America.)
Harmless enough? Probably. But what if they were worse? Could her campaign have been derailed based on the merit of some bad photographs taken while she was just out of college?
The answer is: probably.
In the pictures, Ball appears to be holding a leash attached to the neck of a guy that she says is her ex-husband. Ball says she is more angry than embarrassed. The release of the pictures is ‘sexist and it’s wrong,’ The Hill quotes her as saying.
You have to give Ball her due, however. She’s taking full responsibility for the photos and even telling those who may have a few bad photos of their own wandering in their past not to worry about it.
“(Any) young woman who is thinking about running for office and has ever attended a costume party with her husband or done anything stupid on camera”: Don’t be deterred — “run for office,” Ball said.
I wonder if she saw this in her… you’re right… way too easy.
