What’s all the talk about the new Gap logo today?
Well, who knew bargain hunting clothes shoppers had such a strong opinion? The claws came out this morning when go-to jean and tee-shirt store Gap decided to redesign it’s logo, which made it go from Gap to Crap.
People got irrationally angry over the Gap’s new logo choice, as if the low-cost clothing wasn’t already cheap looking enough.
With little fanfare, the company decided to redesign its logo and post it on its website. Not too long after, waves of criticism from design firms, mainstream publications and just-plain bewildered bloggers started rolling in.
The company, which has apparently heard the cries of outrage, turned the redesign into a crowd-sourcing exercise on its Facebook page. No word yet on whether that was the official plan all along, or if it was just a knee-jerk reaction to all the bad press (via Yahoo).
My personal faves from the Blogosphere:
1. ‘Looks Like it Cost $17 From an Old Microsoft Word Clipart Gallery’
2. ‘It Makes Old Navy Look Like a Luxury Brand’
3. ‘Gap Sales Are Declining Anyway’
What do you think of the new design?
Will it affect your desire to fall into the Gap?
