It has been nearly 30 years since John Lennon was murdered by Mark David Chapman. If he were still alive, he would turn 70 tomorrow. Part of him has been living on in New York City, though. John Lennon’s fingerprints were found in a New York memorabilia shop and were going to being auctioned off at an event on Lennon’s birthday, October 9th. The prints were found at Gotta Have It and were taken back by police in 1976 when John Lennon was applying for US citizenship along with his signature and listed name as “John Winston Ono Lennon.” But the FBI stepped in and has seized the prints. How did police fingerprints wind up at a memorabilia shop? And what does the FBI have to do with all this? It’s anyone’s guess.

Anyway, in honor of the Beatle, here are some John Lennon quotes:

“All we are saying is give peace a chance.”

“All you need is love.”

“I believe in everything until it’s disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it’s in your mind. Who’s to say that dreams and nightmares aren’t as real as the here and now?”

“I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It’s just that the translations have gone wrong.”

“I don’t believe in killing whatever the reason!”

RIP, John Lennon.
