What comes to mind when you think of Chandra Levy? Murder, DC intern and Gary Condit probably. But how about the name Ingmar Guandique? Well 9 years after her gruesome murder in Rock Creek Park, the illegal immigrant from El Salvador is on the stand for her murder. Jury selection begins today.
After Chandra Levy’s disappearance, the truth came out about California Democrat Gary Condit who was romantically linked to the 24-year-old intern, although he never admitted it. In one of the biggest political scandals of the decade, Gary Condit’s political career took a dive after he was thought to be a suspect in the murder. Since then, Gary Condit has cleared his name and is no longer considered a suspect. He is cooperating with authorities and will likely be called as a witness.
As for Ingmar Guandique, things are about to get a lot worse. It has been 9 years since the murder and the prosecution is out for blood. In his affidavit, Ingmar Guandique confessed to fatally strangling Chandra Levy to death after getting high in the park. Currently serving out a 10-year sentence for two other violent assaults on women in the same park Levy vanished from, it seems like the police have the right man.
It’s about time for this trial to get underway. It has been 9 years!
