It was a violent weekend for football punctuated by a whiplash like hit on Philadelphia wide receiver Desean Jackson during a win over the Atlanta Falcons. Jackson’s injury is listed as a severe concussion.
SEVERE concussion. A regular concussion is when your brain hits your skull. A severe concussion is when your brain REALLY hits your skull then probably bounces around for awhile.
The swift and nimble wide receiver caught a Kevin Kolb thrown pass over the middle only to be met by the helmet of Falcon Dunta Robinson.
Jackson went from a sprint to a complete stop nearly immediately and then hit his head hard on the turf. Have fun watching the video here.
Jackson was on the ground for awhile probably saying things like, “Please get the license number of the taxi that just hit me,” before being helped off the field.
Some are questioning whether or not Robinson’s hit was dirty, but it doesn’t appear to be. Jackson honestly just was in the wrong spot at the wrong time catch the wrong pass. Robinson didn’t launch himself at Jackson as much as he stood there and put his head down, meeting his helmet at Jackson’s chest.
Regardless of the intent, Jackson will be out for at least a week and who knows how this will affect him down the road in his career. He has already suffered a concussion before (last season when he had to sit out a week as well.)
If you want to blame someone for this, blame Jackson’s QB, Kolb. Even Kolb already blames Kolb.
“I just felt so bad. I’m part of the play, and I never saw the guy.”
“DeSean is a tough guy, and he’ll be out there as soon as he can. We got to take this concussion situation serious.”
