What’s not to love about Taylor Swift? If you are a fan, you know her new album Speak Now drops October 25th and is full of lyrical genius. She singles out John Mayer in Dear John and slams haters in Mean. This is her third full-length album and it’s clear that the blond haired songstress has grown a lot since her 2008 debut.
Taylor Swift Mean Lyrics go like this:
Washed up and ranting about the same old bitter things/Drunken grumblings about how I can’t sing/But all you are is mean/And a liar/And pathetic.
When interviewed by E! News about Mean, Taylor had a mature perspective and seemed to speaking from experience:
“When you do what I do, which is you put yourself out there for a lot of people to say whatever they want… there’s a million different opinions I get that, no matter what, you’re going to be criticized for something. But I also get that there are different kinds of ways to criticize someone. There’s constructive criticism, there’s professional criticism – and then there’s just being mean. And there’s a line that you cross when you just start to attack everything about a person.”
In Dear John, Taylor Swift singles out John Mayer and sings:
“Dear John/I see it all now that you’re gone/Don’t you think I was too young/To be messed with/The girl in the dress/Cried the whole way home/I should’ve known..It was wrong/Don’t you think nineteen’s too young/To be played/By your dark, twisted games/When I loved you so…You’ll add my name to your long list of traitors who don’t understand/And I’ll look back in regret I ignored what they said ‘Run as fast as you can’.”
Ouch if you’re John Mayer.
