The NBA seems to be done with Allen Iverson, so the former MVP is heading to Turkey this season to play for $4 million. I wonder if he’ll participate in practice.
With the NBA pre-season underway, and the regular season opening in a week, there are no apparent takers for the former All-Star.
So, off to Turkey he goes.
Iverson will be taking his talents to Istanbul to play for Besiktas of the Turkish basketball league.
Iverson has agreed to accept a two-year, $4 million contact with Besiktas and will report to them by the end of the week. He reportedly turned down more lucrative offers from Chinese team, but instead decided to become the biggest NBA’er so far to move to Europe for his sunset years, according to the Business Insider.
Iverson and his crew in Turkey should be pretty interesting. However, I doubt too many news organizations are going to spend the time or money to cover his exploits this season.
It’s almost sad how a sports figure as successful and well-known as Iverson can be relegated to playing what amounts to mercenary work for a team in a country far, far away from the American spotlight.
Still, if that’s what he has to do to get money for his family, you can’t really blame the man, can you?
