Justice has finally been served in the Anna Nicole Smith case. After 58 hours of deliberations, a jury has convicted Khristine Eroshevich, Anna Nicole Smith’s psychiatrist, and boyfriend Howard K. Stern on charges of conspiracy and illegally administering drugs. The six men and six women jury started deliberating October 12th and returned their verdicts yesterday afternoon. Smith’s doctor, Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, got lucky and was acquitted of all charges. All three pleaded not guilty to excessive prescribing of opiates and sedatives, conspiracy and obtaining drugs through fraudulent means.
Judge Larry Seidlin was not directly involved in this case but oversaw the custody trial for Smith’s body and had a lot to say. He is writing a book on the tragedy called The Killing Of Anna Nicole Smith. He said, from Radar Online:
Kapoor will be thanking his lucky stars right now. But for the other two, its going to be a ‘Nightmare On Elm Street.’ Stern could go to jail for up to three years. The judge could slam him, or he could get probation, but that is up to the judge. He certainly hasn’t gotten off lightly. He has been found guilty of a felony.
Judge Seidlin went on to stress the importance of this case’s outcome:
If any good has come out of this tragic case it’s that it has set precedent that doctors and professionals are not immune from facing criminal liability from giving excessive drugs to fragile and weak people.
Anna Nicole Smith died February 8, 2007 of a drug overdose.
