When Michael Jackson debuted the music video for Thriller in 1983 he created a Halloween sensation that won’t be going in the grave anytime soon.

The Thriller video In what is arguably the greatest video of all time (Yes, yes Mariah Carey’s Butterfly has to be a close second :P) Jackson went all out. As in, the most expensive video ever made at that time and one that would be played over and over again on MTV, but surprisingly, one that no one seemed to get sick of.

Sure, Thriller, the album, went on to be the best selling of all time, but Thriller, the video, also has it’s share of accolades.

Guinness World Records listed it in 2006 as the “most successful music video”, selling over 9 million units. In 2009, the video was inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress, the first music video to ever receive this honor, for being “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant.
