Instead of staying in all weekend getting ready to clip coupons for Black Friday or practice your finger exercises for Cyber Monday, go see a movie! It’s too early for Christmas anyway! Plus, there’s lots of non-holiday related flicks out this weekend.

What to see, though? Check out my picks!

Due Date

Peter Highman is an expectant first-time father whose wife’s due date is a mere five days away. As Peter hurries to catch a flight home from Atlanta to be at her side for the birth, his best intentions go completely awry when a chance encounter with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay forces Peter to hitch a ride with Ethan–on what turns out to be a cross-country road trip that will ultimately destroy several lives.

Rated R for Arrr-some – this film is directed by Todd Philips, the same guy that did The Hangover. Plus, with Zach G in the drivers seat – it’s sure be brazilliant!

For Colored Girls

Tyler Perry brings to the screen Ntozake Shange’s Obie Award-winning play, a poetic exploration of what is to be of color and a female in this world.

Rated R for some super sad, sexual and disturbing scenes.

Megamind is the most brilliant super-villain the world has ever known… and the least successful. Over the years, he has tried to conquer Metro City in every imaginable way — Each attempt, a colossal failure thanks to the caped superhero known as “Metro Man,” until the day Megamind actually defeats him in the throes of one of his botched evil plans. Suddenly, the fate of Metro City is threatened when a new villain arrives and chaos runs rampant, leaving everyone to wonder: Can the world’s biggest “mind” actually be the one to save the day?

Rated PG — With an all-star cast of funny voices, this will no doubt be the #1 movie of the weekend. It might suck, but hey, we aren’t kids!

127 Hours

The film centers on Aron Ralston, an American climber whose arm got trapped under a boulder while hiking in Utah, and who, after waiting five days, decided the only chance he had for survival was to amputate his own arm.

If you have a gnawing (get it) urge to see Ryan Reynolds not looking super hot, then you might want to skip this. But if it’s a cold blooded thriller (of the mind) you’re looking for – this should do the trick. Rated R for “Oh my god he’s cutting his own arm off!!”
