The world and web has errupted with the long awaited news that Britain’s Prince William is officially engaged to girlfriend of 8 years, the lovely Kate Middleton. So naturally, everyone wants to know about Kate Middleton engagement ring. Like, who did it used to belong to?
Kate Middleton’s Engagement Ring
Price William proposed to his bride-to-be Kate Middleton with his late mother’s, Princess Diana, original engagement ring.
Amid a barrage of flash photography the beaming young couple showed off the blue sapphire ring, surrounded with diamonds, which Diana wore on her wedding day nearly 30 years ago (via Reuters).
“It is my way of making sure my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement and the fact that we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together,” the future king of England said on Tuesday.
Aww… that is really sweet, Will!
What a nice way to keep his mothers memory alive. Princess Diana and Prince Charles, heir-to-throne, divorced in 1996 and, as we all know, Diana was killed tragically in Paris at age 36 in a car crash a year later, after a high-speed chase running away from paparazzi.
The charming Price Charming explained:
As you may recognize, it is my mother’s engagement ring. So of course, it is very special to me, and Kate is very special to me now as well. It is only right the two are put together.
