A Michigan case of three missing boys has captivated news media and has everyone fearing for the worst. Tanner, 5, Alexander, 7, and Andrew Skelton, 9, are still missing and were last seen alive Thursday afternoon in their father’s backyard. Authorities believe they are in danger.
While their father John Skelton, 39, hasn’t been named an official suspect, he hasn’t been ruled out either. He claims he left the boys in the care of a woman named Joann Taylor — a woman he’d been having an online relationship with, but investigators haven’t found anything to suggest that the woman actually exists. John Skelton tried to commit suicide on the same day the boys went missing and has been holed up in an Ohio hospital since Friday where he has been receiving treatment for “mental health issues.”
The missing Michigan boys’ parents are going through a divorce and were reported missing by their mother, Tanya Skelton after they failed to return from visiting their father. Time is running out and authorities say that the chance of finding the three boys alive is slim. Just like on Criminal Minds, the FBI’s behavioral science experts have joined the case along with two planes and police dogs in the hopes of finding the missing boys alive.
Roxann Skelton, John’s mother, insisted her son wouldn’t hurt the children. She told the Detroit Free Press:
“I know my son, he’s not a monster. He’s a good son and he would not harm his boys. I know those children are, you know, still with us.”
Let’s hope this one ends well and isn’t a Casey Anthony nightmare all over again.
