The picturesque Disney town of Celebration, Florida just got a little less magical as news of the first homicide in fourteen years makes its way around the internet. 58-year-old former teacher Matteo Giovanditto was found lifeless on the kitchen floor of his condo covered by a blanket. This is the first homicide in Celebration’s 14 year history.

Celebration is a tight-knit community of about 11,000 people just outside Orlando that has the feel of a quaint little village. Kind of like the housewives on Wisteria Lane, all the neighbors know each other and become suspicious if someone hasn’t been around for a couple of days. That’s why when no one heard from Giovanditto since the day before Thanksgiving, they started to worry and a missing person’s report was filed Sunday night. His body was found by neighbors the next day in his apartment.

Investigators are not releasing details about the circumstances surrounding Giovanditto’s death. Twis Lizasuain, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said:

This is very rare and unusual for a crime of this magnitude to occur in this community.

Disney gave up control of Celebration, Florida a few years back and the town is now treated like any other town in Osceola County. Critics compared Celebration to something out of The Stepford Wives or The Truman Show. Let’s hope the police get a break in the case and restore peace to this town.
