Howard Stern fans everywhere are rejoicing because the shock jock you love to hate just got picked up by SiriusXM Radio for another five years. News of the Howard Stern contract renewal has put his departure rumors to rest and has sent SiriusXM stock through the roof.

Howard Stern announced the news this morning on his show although the exact terms weren’t specified. We do know that initially Stern will be keeping the 6am to 10am time slot, four days each week. He also told his listeners that this new contract will make him available via SiriusXM apps for smartphones.

In case you were wondering, the in-your-face host started with SiriusXM in December 2005 and signed a contract for a whopping $500 million. I realize Howard Stern is a household name and he has tons of fans, but his salary seems majorly inflated IMHO. But when you’re Howard Stern, I guess you kind of run the show, literally.

Expert Joel Hollander, who was in charge of CBS Radio when Stern left for satellite in January 2006, weighed in before the new Howard Stern contract was announced:

Howard can do whatever he wants and be successful in any medium on any platform, but if I were a betting man, I’d guess that he’d stay.

And right he was!

The latest guest to make waves on Howard Stern’s show was Connie Hamzy, a lifelong groupie who says she has bedded some of the biggest names in music. Oh, and Bill Clinton.

So what are your thoughts on the new Howard Stern contract? Love him or hate him?
