What is it with rappers and guns? Hip hop performer Ja Rule is making news today after pleading guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He is facing time behind bars for a July 2007 incident in New York City where police allegedly stumbled upon a loaded semiautomatic weapon in his car after pulling him over for speeding.

Sorry Ja Rule, but how stupid can you be? First, carrying a loaded weapon like that in your car is asking for trouble and doing so illegally is the icing on the cake.

Today in court, Ja Rule was dressed in dark jeans and a sweater and pleaded guilty in a low voice.

‘Because of your guilty plea here today, you’ll have a record of having committed a violent felony. This is a very serious matter,’ Manhattan state Supreme Court Justice Richard Carruthers told the rapper.

Ja Rule declined to comment further and left the court saying, “This isn’t a good day.”

The weapons toting rapper will be sentenced in February but a judge today promised him a two-year sentence behind bars. He’s a free man until then. The moral of the story is if you’re going to keep a weapon handy, do it legally! Not worth the alternative. Either that, or don’t speed!
