SPRINGFIELD, IL: The town of Springfield has a lot of unanswered questions floating around this evening after Mayor Tim Davlin was found dead in his home after failing to show up at a court-ordered appearance. A 911 emergency call was made at 8:54am and the mayor was found by officers about fifteen minutes later. The cause of death was what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Tim Davlin, 53, was serving his second term as mayor and was first elected in 2003. To avoid getting burnt out, he opted not to run for a third term. State Senator Larry Bomke said Davlin “had the warm smile, the charisma. He was the kind of guy you’d like to have a beer with,” reported The Tribute.
Governor Pat Quinn said Davlin “was a great public servant who loved Springfield and its people.”
The city of Springfield is a better place because of his leadership,” Quinn said. “He was not only a champion for Springfield, but also for the entire state, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.’
Behind the scenes though, it seemed like Tim Davlin was struggling. He owed the IRS over $90,000 in back taxes and liens had been filed against his home, according to the Chicago Tribune. His death is being investigated as a suicide.
Alderman Frank Kunz will serve as mayor in the interim.
