Okay, so something is definitely in the water over in Hollywood today.

First Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall axe their love, then Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson file for the big D;  and now America’s sweethearts Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens have called it quits.

People.com reports that after nearly five years of dating, (which is like 90 years in Hollywood time), the ‘High School Musical’ super stars have broken up.

They are 100 percent still good friends. It’s nothing dramatic.  There’s no third party involved.  They were just together for so long.  It just ran its course.

It was long, hard road for the couple, who people publicly criticized, calling their commitment to each other was staged and actually just a showmance. Plus, Perez Hilton, who has a famous crush on Efron, would constantly and unabashedly make fun of Vanessa on his popular blog site, perezhilton.com.

Even in the face of the rumor mill, though, Zac insisted that their love was “exactly how it should be.  It’s real.”

And Vanessa confirmed those sentiments in a recent Glamour article, saying: “Right off the bat, we had a connection, I think everybody could see it.”

Now, Zac is in New Orleans filming ‘The Lucky One’ while Vanessa works on ‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’ in Hawaii.

Hmm, the long distance, no doubt, didn’t help. What do you think?
