The web went into a tizzy Thursday when everybody’s favorite actors’ actor, Morgan Freeman, was the victim of a Twitter hoax saying: Morgan Freeman is Dead.
Who could be so cruel!?
According the NY Daily News:
Though the actor is alive and well, a rumor rocketed across the internet on Thursday that CNN had reported his death. “RT @CNN: Breaking News: actor Morgan Freeman has passed away in his Burbank home,” many Twitter users posted on Thursday evening.
Everyone who uses Twitter knows that the RT letters mean you’re simply retweeting something that is already out in the ether, and thus cold hard fact.
Wrong!
Then of course everyone retweeted the original RT @CNN with a WTF!!
The post was retweeted by many other media outlets, including LiveNewsWire and ESPN‘s Bruce Feldman, as well as Borders headquarters. This epidemic of retweets caused many to believe that CNN had posted the news, and others were simply passing it on.
Obviously CNN’s Twitter account did not show the original tweet, making people wonder if their account had been hacked. CNN quickly cleared up that no, they had nothing to with it when they posted:
CNN did not report Morgan Freeman death,” the network stated. “Rumor is false. CNN will aggressively investigate this hoax.
Nobody is asking the real question here: Does Morgan Freeman even know what Twitter is? Good news is that Morgan Freeman is not dead. He is alive and well!
