Anorexia is a very real illness and friends and family of Isabelle Caro know this all too well. She is best known for a 2007 ad campaign shot by Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani that shows her frail frame with the headline, No Anorexia. Caro spoke to AFP about the campaign in 2007 and said, “I thought this could be a chance to use my suffering to get a message across, and finally put an image on what thinness represents and the danger it leads to — which is death.” Little did she know her words would be so telling.

What Isabelle Caro’s friends have said:
Those close to her say Caro had been suffering for a very long time. She even released an autobiography in 2008 entitled The Little Girl Who Didn’t Want To Get Fat, where she spoke candidly about her struggle with anorexia:
You’re stuffed with awful food like a fattened goose. You’re forced to gain weight [at the hospital]. And as soon as you’re released, you lose all the weight again. At least that’s the way it was with me.
