The 93-year-old’s publicist, John Blanchette, said doctors examined growing lesions on Gabor’s leg over the weekend and decided that it’s best for her to return to UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. People reports:
‘She developed a lesion on the leg that had swollen a while back and caused her to go to the hospital for treatment, but it has not responded,’ said Gabor’s publicist, John Blanchette. ‘In fact, it has increased in size, and the doctors have wanted to operate for several days…. [Gabor's husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt] and Zsa Zsa asked if they could spend New Year’s at home, and [they] shared champagne and caviar. The doctors came to the house today [Sunday], and when they unwrapped the bandages, [they saw that] the wound had festered and they were afraid of gangrene developing, which would be life-threatening.’
Back in July, Zsa Zsa Gabor broke her hip and has been in and out of the hospital since then. She was given her last rites in August but then seemed to get better and left the hospital shortly after.
As far as her personal life goes, Zsa Zsa Gabor has had a string of husbands (nine!) including George Sanders and hotel guru Conrad Hilton.
