Michael Douglas spoke with Matt Lauer in his first TV interview since being treated for throat cancer and it looks like he has gotten a new lease on life! The actor is confident he’s cancer free and tells Matt Lauer:
I feel good, relieved. The tumor is gone. But, you know, I have to check out on a monthly basis now to maintain. I guess there’s not a total euphoria. It’s been a wild six-month ride.
Not everyone fares so well. Throat cancer can be difficult to diagnose and treat and takes a toll on the body leaving many unable to eat or speak. Luckily for Michael Douglas, his doctors are all smiles. On Letterman’s Late Show in September, Douglas said his doctors told him he had an 80 percent chance of survival. Yay for happy endings!
In life, nothing is certain, but the 66-year-old star, who is married to Catherine Zeta Jones, remains optimistic about his future:
The odds are, with the tumor gone and what I know about this particular type of cancer, that I’ve got it beat. I’m eating like a pig. I’m still – I lost about 32 pounds. And I’ve put about 12 back. But, I mean, I got another 20, 25 to go.
Let’s hope Michael Douglas stays cancer free!
