On 370 Beech Street in Highland Park, Illinois a 57-year-old midcentury modern 4-bedroom, 4-bath home has been sitting on the market for more than a year. So with homes across the nation in this same stagnant situation in our down-turned market, what’s so special about this home?

Find out about more this special house below.

Bueller… Bueller…

Take a glance at the photo of the home, and if you’re old enough to cherish the memories of slap bracelets, Jordache jeans, neon scrunchies and ooh la la Sasson, you’ll recognize it. Yep, that’s the home from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off — one of the spots where Ferris and Cameron visited while playing hookie for the day, and where they “borrowed” Cameron’s father’s Ferrari 250GT California Spyder.

The Ferris Bueller House

Designed in 1953 by A. James Speyer and David Haid, the house is reportedly now recognized as “architecturally significant.” That architectural recognition paired with the home’s iconic feature in the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off movie has the home set on the real estate market for the reduced asking price of $1,650,000.

Selling the Ferris Bueller House

Colleen Kane, a reporter for CNBC.com checked in on the market for designed midcentury homes:

We have a very bad market in this price range,” says the property’s realtor, Meladee Hughes (no relation to writer/director John Hughes). “This is a midcentury modern home that is not always what all the young people want-it doesn’t have the bathrooms and kitchens with stainless steel-well, it does have some of the original stainless-but the young people want stone, they want this and that [updated features].

Hughes continued, “We hope to have this sold in the next 30 to 60 days. Someone is going to be the lucky owner! I wish it would be me, I love this house, it’s a magical house, just sitting there, looking outside, the deer come by, it’s enchanted.”
