Consumers want good deals and with sites such as Groupon and LivingSocial, it’s relatively easy to score cheap eats, discounted entertainment and more! A new launch by Google called Google Offers will soon join the competition and has been the talk of the web.

Get all the details on Google Offers after the jump!

What are group discount sites?

For those of you in the dark, group discount sites like Groupon give you daily access to great deals in your area ranging from heavily discounted beauty treatments to half price Amazon gift cards. The best part is that it’s free to sign up! Most coupons, deals and savings alerts come daily via email.

The Washington Post reports that like similar sites, Google Offers will send out daily emails for a buy-in discount. The businesses involved with receive 80% of revenue derived from the deal three days after it runs. They also note that “the company’s desire to get into the coupon business is well-known, especially since Groupon turned down a $6 billion buyout offer from Google.”

How do group discount sites like Google Offers work?

Group discount sites that offer buy-in savings usually require a set number of people to commit to purchasing to the deal. This encourages members and subscribers to pass along the deals to their friends and family — helping members to reach their group buy-in quota, while also increasing the group discount site’s subscriber base.

For example: If you receive an email deal of the day to buy a $50 gift card to your favorite local restaurant for the half-off price of $25, part of the restaurant’s requirements for that deal may be for 1,000 other members to that same group discount site to commit to buying it.

Google told Mashable:

Google is communicating with small businesses to enlist their support and participation in a test of a pre-paid offers/vouchers program. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort at Google to make new products, such as the recent Offer Ads beta, that connect businesses with customers in new ways. We do not have more details to share at this time, but will keep you posted.

Although it’s not in existence yet, it sounds like Google Offers is set to launch in the very near future. Will Google Offers phase out its competitors or become a distant memory? Time will tell, but in the meantime, go sign up for one of the other group discount sites so you don’t miss out on any deals!
