Jesse Ventura means business and not only did he file a lawsuit against the TSA and the Department of Homeland Security, but he cited their chiefs as well, John S. Pistole and Janet Napolitano, in documents filed yesterday.
Ventura’s lawsuit, which was submitted to the U.S. District Court for Minnesota, came about after his titanium hip implant surgery which subjects him to a full body pat down every time he flies commercially. He accuses the agencies of violating his Constitutional right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures.
So does he want to be compensated for the trouble? Surprisingly, Jesse Ventura is not out for a buck. He just wants change:
‘He’s not seeking any money damages, he doesn’t want to get rich through this lawsuit,’ Ventura’s attorney, Daniel Olsen, told the Daily News. ‘In fact, he could be financially harmed, if anything.’
In the lawsuit, the body scans are called “demeaning and degrading” and “tantamount to a warrantless, nonsuspicions-based, electronically recorded strip search.” In Ventura’s opinion, they meet the definition of unlawful video voyeurism.”
So good for Jesse Ventura trying to bring about change. Will he win the lawsuit? As long as there are terrorists among us, the sad answer is probably no. But hey, it never hurt to try.
