A central Indonesian rice field is the talk of the island nation after some impressive looking crop circles were discovered over the weekend. While I’m not convinced they’re the work of aliens, it’s hard to say if pranksters are to blame. Regardless, everyone has the same question. Where did the crop circles come from?
Are the intricate crop circles man-made or evidence of UFOs? Get all the details!
The crop circles were found on Sunday in Sleman, Yogyakarta and are made up of triangles and circles. About 70 meters in diameter, the crop circles are stumping local scientists and government officials as they struggle to find a rational explanation. On the other hand, UFO enthusiasts are having a field day and are convinced the crop circles are proof of extraterrestrial life. Krasakan resident, Cahyo Utomo spoke with the Jakarta Post yesterday:
I think they were left by an alien space ship, like one I saw on TV. It is impossible that this was made by wind or any animal.
Maybe. Or maybe some tourists with heavy duty lawn mowers decided to play a little prank.
Indonesian officials remain skeptical. Thomas Djamaluddin, chief of astronomy research at Indonesia’s space agency, told the Jakarta Globe:
We will not send investigators to the scene because we suspect the crop circle involves human intervention, not natural phenomena, nor scientific phenomena associated with outer space creatures commonly referred to as aliens.
In recent years, crop circles have become commonplace and were even a focus of the 2002 Mel Gibson film Signs. Also, self-professed pranksters Doug Bower and Dave Chorley went public in 1991 to take responsibility for recent crop circles and even demonstrated to the world how they’re able to create a nifty looking crop circle in under an hour.
So who is responsible for the Indonesian crop circles? A prankster or aliens?
