If you have nothing to do after Modern Family tonight, tune in to the new comedy series Happy Endings starring Elisha Cuthbert. Best known for her role on 24, the 28-year-old Canadian actress says she’s more like Alex in the new show than any other role she has ever played.

While I don’t know if TV needs any more sitcoms, I’m willing to give Happy Endings a chance–once. The show stars Alex and a bunch of friends who are going through life together. Sound kind of like Friends? Yeah, I thought so too. Anyway, we first see Alex wearing a wedding dress on her way down the aisle. But she’s about to change her mind. Cuthbert explains the scene:
It shows who we are and where we’re at. I have some redeeming to do after leaving my fiancé at the altar. I have to win back the audience, but we don’t dwell on that for too long.
When asked about playing Alex on the show, Elisha Cuthbert spoke about the similarities between Alex and her real life self:
Maybe it’s because I was always afraid to be myself. I always thought the hard part about acting was creating another character, being someone you’re not…Alex is the heart of me. I’m a regular Canadian girl. I enjoy staying home. In the summer I’ve got a garden. I’m very much a homebody, a normal, family-oriented girl. But I do have this other incredible side of my life that involves acting and traveling.
Critics such as USA Today‘s Robert Bianco weren’t fans and said Happy Endings is a “fairly good” example of why network bosses were fired. Bad day, pal, or does the show suck that bad?
Will it be a hit or a flop? Should Elisha stick to roles more like Kim on 24? Let me know tomorrow after you check out Elisha Cuthbert in Happy Endings tonight at 9:30pm ET/PT on ABC.
