What’s Earth Day all about?
The Long Island Press has some background on the movement:
Since its inception, Earth Day has enlisted the help of 192 countries and now billions of people participate in Earth Day activities each year making it the largest civil observance in the world. The main goal of Earth Day is to broaden, diversify and mobilize the environmental movement, Earth Day Network does this through advocacy, education, public policy, and consumer campaigns each year.
This year’s Earth Day theme is “A Billion Acts of Green” and so far, there are 40 million registered actions. As the biggest environmental campaign in existence, its goal is to register 1 billion actions before the 2012 Global Earth Summit in Brazil. Cool!
Happy Earth Day!
