The Alexander McQueen death shocked us all back in February 2010 when he committed suicide. Even though the talented British fashion designer is no longer with us, his brand lives on. Sarah Burton, creative director for the Alexander McQueen label, was the lucky designer of the Kate Middleton wedding dress and showcased her design today on a worldwide scale at the Royal Wedding.

Who is Alexander McQueen? He was known for his extensive knowledge of British tailoring. Wikipedia continues:

…and his tendency to juxtapose female strength and sensuality with fragility in his collections, as well as the emotional power and raw energy of his provocative fashion shows.[2] He is also known for having worked as chief designer at Givenchy from 1996 to 2001 and for founding his own label under the name Alexander McQueen.[2] His achievements in fashion earned him four British Designer of the Year awards (1996, 1997, 2001 and 2003), as well as the CFDA’s International Designer of the Year award in 2003.

Sarah Burton took over the brand after Alexander McQueen’s death and caught Kate Middleton’s eye in 2005 with a design she did for an off-the-shoulder wedding dress for Sara Buys, daughter-in-law to Kate’s new stepmother Camilla.

Sarah Burton had wonderful things to say about working with Kate Middleton:

“It has been the experience of a lifetime to work with Catherine Middleton to create her wedding dress, and I have enjoyed every moment of it. It was such an incredible honor to be asked, and I am so proud of what we and the Alexander McQueen team have created. Catherine looked absolutely stunning today, and the team at Alexander McQueen are very proud of what we have created. The dress was just one component of a spectacular day, and I do not think it is appropriate to comment any further beyond saying that I personally am very grateful and honored to have been given the opportunity to work on this project, and I wish TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge every good wish for the future.”

Kate is just one of Burton’s A-list clients. She has worked with Lady Gaga, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett to name a few.
