Ahh, and the plot thickens! We told you yesterday that last year’s American Idol winner Lee DeWyze refused to present Scotty McCreery with the winning trophy, according to Nigel Lythgoe. But apparently that was just one half of the story. Lee DeWyze took to Twitter and shared what went down from his perspective.

What did he have to say? Read on!

According to Lee DeWyze, he was never asked to be part of the finale and was asked last minute to come up on stage. Here’s what Lee DeWyze tweeted:

Just for the record… I was not asked to be involved in the Finale. It wasn’t until about 2 minutes before they announced that Nigel had approached me and asked if he could ‘borrow’ me for a second. I didn’t feel a last second jump on stage was appropriate. It was Scotty’s moment.

Now his refusal seems quite justified, doesn’t it?

He continued:

“I appreciate American Idol, and the opportunity it has given me. And the people who have made that show possible. I am not angry, or bitter etc. It was an amazing Finale, and I would have loved to be a part of it. I just wasn’t asked. Good luck to all the Contestants and stay true to yourself.”

So the question remains: Why wasn’t Lee DeWyze asked to perform on the finale? If there is some bad blood between Nigel and Lee, they both need to get over it. The public wouldn’t have had a clue that there was a problem if Idol asked Lee DeWyze to perform, but the fact that we saw him sitting five rows back looked like a major snub. Now it looks like Nigel Lythgoe has some explaining to do. How do you not ask the previous year’s winner to perform?? Not cool.
