I like far-fetched movies. You know the kind I mean–the ones that are so out there that you know it’s just make believe. But when a film’s premise seems plausible, it gets scarily real and Contagion will certainly have you wondering if a lethal virus is lurking just around the corner.
The film opens on Day 2 of the outbreak when Matt Damon’s wife, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, coughs in an airport and dies shortly after. From there, the virus spreads at an alarmingly fast pace, the CDC gets involved and you can see where this is going.
What do folks around the web have to say about Contagion? Let’s find out:
Karina Mitchell of CBS News had this to say: “…I’m not sure whether “Contagion” is the same caliber of an award-winning film like Soderbergh’s “Traffic” or “Erin Brokovich.” I wasn’t impressed with the ending, that provides a “Day 1″ theory about how the virus most likely came into existence and was spread. In some ways, I felt it was unnecessary.”
ScreenRant‘s Kofi Outlaw’s take on the film:
“Contagion is quite sterile (from its tone to its crisp digital shots) and fails to capture the sheer emotion of such a terrible situation. There are some chilling and/or heartfelt moments that occur here and there, but these are ultimately fleeting, as Soderbergh and Burns are clearly more concerned with mapping out their larger blueprint.”
I never cared much for critics’ reviews anyway. See if the film lives up to the hype for yourself. Contagion is in theaters now.
