The long-awaited X-Factor auditions are here! Simon Cowell’s new FOX hit The X-Factor debuted this week and we saw the good, the bad and the ugly (weirdo Geo dropping his pants), but mostly a lot of good! Nestled into the very end of the premiere was standout Chris Rene, a trash collector. With his Eminem look and the news that he’s 70 days clean, the audience wasn’t sure what to expect from this Santa Cruz, California native. But then he sang–his own music to boot and was majorly impressive. The judges were moved (even Simon)!

It’s refreshing to hear someone sing their own music that doesn’t suck. With his Mike Posner-esque voice and his touching story (fresh out of rehab and has a 2-year-old son), Chris Rene, 28, hit a nerve for the judges and viewers alike. His The X-Factor audition consisted of an original called Young Homey and although the song’s title didn’t sound like much, the music really did.
Will he win the $5 million prize? Not sure, but it’ll sure be fun to watch him in action.
Here’s Chris Rene, who truly was one of the best X-Factor auditions we saw:
Do you think Chris Rene has what it takes?
