Losing weight is one of the top New Year’s resolutions people make, but it’s also the hardest to follow through with. Every try to lose weight? Yeah, not the easiest thing in the world, right? With the Dash Diet, though, you may have a fighting chance. US News ranked 20 of the most popular diets in the U.S. For a diet to rank, it had to be simple, nutritious, effective for weight loss as well as against heart disease and diabetes, and most of all, safe.
The Dash Diet, which stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, meets all of the requirements and was originally created to combat high blood pressure. In the process, you lose weight.
US News explains the Dash Diet further:
“Nutrients like potassium, calcium, protein, and fiber are crucial to fending off or fighting high blood pressure. You don’t have to track each one, though. Just emphasize the foods you’ve always been told to eat (fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean protein, and low-fat dairy), while shunning those we’ve grown to love (calorie- and fat-laden sweets and red meat). Top it all off by cutting back on salt, and voilà!”
When you look at what makes up the Dash Diet, it’s nothing revolutionary. We know that to be healthy, we have to eat right and the Dash Diet just spells out the specifics in a neat little diet plan. You can learn more about it here and here.
And what about commercial diets? Weight Watchers took the number one spot.
What do you think of the DASH Diet? Worthy of the top spot or just common sense?
