What’s the best way to teach a star a lesson? Send them to jail and release them after only a few hours, of course! Lindsay Lohan checked herself into jail this morning and in just 4.5 hours, she was already out and on her way.

Say what? Yup, Lindsay Lohan is already out of jail. Are you shocked?

When your trip to the slammer lasts only as long as an afternoon shopping trip, you’re either incredibly lucky or Lindsay Lohan. The 25-year-old troubled star was sentenced to 30 days in prison for violating her parole and is already out — after serving just 4.5 hours behind bars!

Why, you ask? Overcrowding. Miss Lohan checked in to the Century Regional Detention facility in Lynwood, California at 8:50 p.m. on Sunday and was out just mere hours later at 1:40 a.m. Monday. Nice, eh?

She didn’t get off that easy, though. Lindsay Lohan must finish her 423 hours of community service at the morgue and have psychotherapy sessions as well as show up to monthly court hearings. She was also banned from traveling outside the U.S. and would have to get her parole officer’s permission if she wants to leave California. Restrictions like that certainly put a damper on an acting career, but Lindsay Lohan seems to have more important things to worry about.

Here’s a thought. Maybe if we stopped treating celeb prison sentences like jokes, the celebs would stop breaking the law after they got a taste of what it’s really like. Come on, 4.5 hours? Overcrowding or not — what kind of impact is that going to make?
