The NBC vocal competition was huge hit earlier this year that a British version of the brand new show is scheduled to air on BBC1 in spring. Just confirmed to sit in a blinded judge’s seat alongside Jessie J is the Black Eyed Peas’ Will.I.Am.
Though will.i.am already has a heavily-involved hand in many other creative projects, he is nothing short of ecstatic to be selected as a judge for the show:
I’m proud to be doing The Voice U.K. because the U.K. was the first place I saw success. It’s the place I’m the most creative outside of home.
Of course, Will.I.Am would never turn down an opportunity like this one, no matter how busy he is. Not only is he a musician, producer, songwriter and founding member of the Black Eyed Peas (the pop/hip hop band with seven Grammy Awards to date), but he is notorious for publishing his pop culture perspectives online and sharing business and creative advice with other artists of all industries. His mentoring abilities make him an incredibly coveted coach for future contestants competing on ‘The Voice’ U.K.
Even more so, I believe he will also outshine the coaches of the original version: Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, Cee-lo Green and Adam Levine of Maroon 5. Since the show requires blind auditions and a head-to-head battle between contestants learning from the same mentor, I feel that will.i.am will remain true to his craft and serve to train future artists, rather than simple try to collect ratings the way that the original version did earlier this year, in my opinion. I’m incredibly excited for the show’s premiere and can’t wait to hear his comments and critiques.
However, two more seats remain empty at the moment. Rumor has it that one maybe be reserved for Cheryl Cole…
