If you sat in line for the midnight showing of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn or supported either of Robert Downey Jr.’s film franchises, you contributed: Forbes released its list of “Hollywood’s Best Actors for the Buck” yesterday. These actors are the ones who are the best investments for projects on the big screen…which doesn’t necessarily have to correlate with acting talent or training. But to all the veteran actors with their polished Oscars and SAG awards, watch out — the amount of young Hollywood alumni on this list will seriously shock you!

How is this list put together? Forbes analyzes information used to rank the Celebrity 100 to review the last three non animation movies featuring the actor in a starring role over the past three years. All operating income of each movie is added up, then divided by the actor’s total compensation (upfront and backend). In other words, each return on investment number represents how much the studio is paid for every dollar invested in the star.

Here’s the list:

  1. Kristen Stewart
  2. Anne Hathaway
  3. Robert Pattinson
  4. Daniel Radcliffe
  5. Shia LaBeouf
  6. Robert Downey Jr.
  7. Matt Damon
  8. Cate Blanchett
  9. Meryl Streep
  10. Johnny Depp

Why did Kristen Stewart beat out her costar, Robert Pattinson? Because of the way that the list is compiled, Pattinson ranked two spots lower because of his other projects, Remember Me and Water for Elephants. However, the lucrative success of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse alone was enough to put him higher than Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp and Robert Downey Jr., who competes here with both Iron Man 2 and Sherlock Holmes!

Who are you most shocked to see on this list? Personally, I can’t believe Anne Hathaway is in second place. Was Alice in Wonderland seriously that good?
