Last week, entertainment blogs were buzzing with reports that Mariah Carey would take the stage at tonight’s taping of The X Factor with Justin Bieber, singing the “SuperFestive!” version of Carey’s original holiday hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” Initially upon release, the song received some criticism for the changing sound of Bieber’s voice, so audiences of both artists anticipated a live version of the upbeat collaboration.

However, such a performance comes with a price tag, a bill too big for The X Factor to bear.

So just how much did Mariah Carey ask for?

According to ShowBiz411, Carey’s set up — band, dancers, back up singers, make up, lighting, and any other hospitality demands — was approximated to cost about $300,000. And that’s only for half of the would-be performance! An inside source confirms:

Mariah hasn’t performed live in about a year. She wanted to make sure everything was perfect. She certainly doesn’t sing to a track.

Though we won’t be able to watch her live on The X Factor with Justin Bieber, fans can still celebrate the holiday season with Mariah Carey. Beginning Monday, December 19th, Music Choice will air “Merry Christmas from Mariah Carey,” available nationally and on demand. The iconic singer speaks openly about her current holiday album, filming music videos with Justin Bieber and John Legend, and her plans to celebrate Christmas with her family: husband Nick Cannon and twins Monroe and Moroccan.

Justin Bieber is still slated to perform songs from his own holiday album on The X Factor: “The Christmas Song” and “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.”
