He first joked that “spin-offs never work,” particularly “with a character as annoying as Dwight [Schrute].” However, Wilson then confirmed that the rumors may be true in the future. He told E!’s Giuliana Rancic on the award show’s red carpet:
It could be really cool because It would be on his farm, which would be a bed & breakfast, and it would have a crazy menagerie of characters.
Wilson also added, “It would be even more far out and weirder than The Office…it’s a good idea.”
The spin-off’s concept may be tested in an upcoming episode of The Office sometimes this season. Wilson, along with actor/showrunner Paul Lieberstein and executive producer Ben Silverman, are believed to be involved; however, the actor reassured that the spin-off still remains an idea at this point.
