The Carter family released the following statement:
Our family is grieving right now and it’s a private matter. We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved sister, daughter, and granddaughter, Leslie Carter. We request the utmost privacy during this difficult time.
In the late ’90s, Leslie was signed to DreamWorks Records, and though her debut album was never released, her track was included on the Shrek soundtrack. She appeared with her family in the E! reality show House of Carters.
She is survived by her husband Mike and daughter, Alyssa Jane, who was just born in April 2011.
Sources close to the Carter family confessed to TMZ that Leslie was battling an addiction to prescription medication in the days before her death. Apparently, Leslie recently moved from Canada to upstate New York kick her addiction with the support of her family, who rid their home of any prescription medication. However, family members suspect that she passed as a result of an overdose.
The sources continue that the Carter family allegedly left her alone at home for roughly an hour yesterday, only to return to find her unconscious.
