Though Chelsea Handler is a huge comedienne now—with a late night talk show and a mock-umentary series on E!, a brand new hit sitcom Are You There, Chelsea?, multiple bestselling books and a developmental deal with her broadcasting company, this wasn’t the life she hoped for, at one particular point in for life. She has recently opened up about the abortion she had at 16 years old.
I was like, I’m ready for a baby.
However, it was her parents who realistically convinced her otherwise. “I was trying to argue with them and they were like, ‘You don’t understand,” Handler explained. “‘You’re throwing your entire life away. You’re not having a child right now.’”
Even more so, her parents brought themselves into the picture to show her that it’s not a decision that only affects her, and what she would really be getting her loved ones into. “[They said] ‘This is not what our family’s about. You know, you’re supposed to create a life for yourself, and we want you to enjoy your life and not be raising a child. And we’re certainly not going to raise it for you.’ ”
Though it was a huge decision to make at such a young age, Handler looks back at her life’s pivotal moment with the perspective that it was the right decision. She boldly stated,
I wouldn’t be a good mother. I have no regret at all.
