M.I.A. has been the subject of a ton of scrutiny from every direction, including NBC, the NFL and the Federal Communications Commission, after her Super Bowl halftime show stunt. Who else is angry at the musician for flipping the finger during the highly anticipated (yet incredibly disappointing) Super Bowl Halftime Show? Madonna herself. See what she has to say about her guest star and how she poisoned the comeback performance.
Legendary pop musician Madonna expressed her feelings about the controversial moment in Sunday’s performance when singer M.I.A. flipped her middle finger from the stage to everyone in the audience and everyone watching at home.
“To tell you the truth, I didn’t even know about it,” Madonna told Ryan Seacrest over the phone while on the air for his morning radio show. “I didn’t know about it until I left. I found out about it in the elevator, actually.”
So how did she feel about it? It’s hard to shock Madonna, after all she’s done, but apparently it’s not impossible.
“I was really surprised. I didn’t know anything about it. I wasn’t happy about it,” she explained. “I understand it’s kind of punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity, it seemed negative.”
Ryan Seacrest agreed and also commented that it was a “sneaky move” to pull onstage. Madonna thoughtfully continued,
It’s one of those things, it’s such a teenager…in a way, kind of irrelevant kind of thing to do. There was such a feeling of love and unity there, what was the point? It was just out of place.
