America’s Got Talent premieres tonight, with shock jock Howard Stern coming on as the newest host of the prime time TV show. Some are a bit concerned that the outspoken DJ will not be a good fit for the family friendly show, but Stern has come out publicly promising to keep it clean for the kiddos.

When people got all huffy about Stern coming aboard as a judge on the show, he had this to say:
I respect what ‘America’s Got Talent’ is. It is a family show; it is not ‘The Howard Stern Show.’ It is a show that I love. I have been watching it for years and I don’t want to come in and do ‘The Howard Stern Show.’ I don’t want to interrupt the flow of the show, I only want to make it better.
This will be quite a different show than Stern is used to, especially after moving from FM radio – where he couldn’t swear – to Sirius, where he can say whatever the heck he wants. Stern told reporters that he hopes his past as a controversial DJ won’t color people’s opinions of him as a judge on the show.
This is a family show. It is a different form of entertainment. We will see what happens. Hopefully America will like this and put everybody’s fears to rest.
Stern is a father of three and took on the new gig for one reason only – “I thought it would be fun, and I thought I might be good at it because I sit at home watching this thing, and I’m doing commentary to the wall.”
