It’s National Donut Day! Just in time for summer, right? You thought you had finally gotten rid of that spare tire and were ready for the beach and bikini when BAM! – it’s NATIONAL DONUT DAY!
What does this mean, exactly? Is it an official, government sanctioned holiday? Are banks closed? What if you don’t like donuts?
Find out all this and more about National Donut Day… after the jump!
Who knew that ever since 1938, the first Friday in June has been deemed National Doughnut Day? And it didn’t start as some marketing ploy, either. National Donut Day was actaully created by the Salvation Army to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I! So cool, right!?
And to really keep the traditional going, Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme are giving away free donuts all day today.
Here’s how it works: Dunkin Donuts is offering a free doughnut with a purchase of a beverage and Krispy Kreme is just giving a free doughnut to anyone – no purchase necessary (at participating stores.)
How do you choose if you have both Dunkin Donuts AND Krispy Kreme in your town? I guess you just go to both! I mean, who can pass up a free doughnut?
